About my project
The article I chose is about the difference between Chinese and Western typography. The article mentioned that the production of Chinese fonts is not accidental. It is closely connected with local culture and history. So I want to use Google Translate as a medium to explore the relationship between Chinese and Western typesetting. But in the process, the errors of Google Translate made me curious and came to my conclusions through continuous iteration of the weekly version.
Description
I typed the content of the original text so that my readers can understand that the original text is about the different font designs and layouts between China and the West. These designs are related to local culture and history. At the same time, the audience can see the Chinese version translated by Google on the right. Here I want to create an environment in which Google Translate is used as a medium. The part highlighted in red is my voice. The inspiration here comes from the "Danmu" in the Chinese online video. Netizens can send instant comments while watching the video to form a strong visual effect.
In the red highlight, I bring the problem to the topic I want to explore. "The design of the font is connected to the culture. Can the culture behind this font be translated correctly by Google Translates?"
Here I use "Study hard, improve everyday" "Study hard, improve everyday" to give an example that Google Translate is wrong.
Here I recorded my own voice to explain why Google Translate is wrong. I put several pieces of typography at that time, combined with the original content about typeface design and cultural associations. I hope that in this way, my audience can have a clearer view of me.
“Study hard, improve every day “. It’s a Chinese old saying from Chairman Mao in 1951. It is not just a simple phrase, but also is a series of campaigns that consolidated Mao's power base on establishing the idea of serving the people in socialism. The typographies were printed in large numbers everywhere. These have become a memory of a generation and have changed the fate of countless Chinese people. If we relate this slogan to the cultural context, it’s not "ok for every day" during that tough time in China. It is a symbol of encouragement and power to motivate the people to contribute to the new China.
